ENHAUTO B .11.11.0402.1 Problem with cp and mv commands

We are trying to cp or mv a tar file from a local filesystem to an autofs filesystem on the same server (HP-UX 11i) but we get the error "bad copy" followed by "Connection timed out".
We have succesfully done an mv on the file after mounting it using standard NFS.
Any help would be appreciated and (obviously) points awarded.
