Re: Enquiry of dependencies of patch

Hi

use the option
Enforce dependency analysis errors in agent

In swinstall and just install as requested.
Without dependencies . No install

Enforce dependency analysis errors in agent
Requires that all dependencies specified by the
software_selections be resolved either in the specified
source, or at the target_selections themselves.
The swinstall and swcopy commands will not proceed
unless the dependencies have also been selected or
already exist at the target in the correct state
(INSTALLED or AVAILABLE). This prevents unusable
software from being installed on the system. It also
ensures that depots contain usable sets of software.
If set to false, dependencies are still checked, but
not enforced. Corequisite dependencies, if not
enforced, may keep the selected software from working
properly. Prerequisite dependencies, if not enforced,
may cause the installation or configuration to fail.

Re: Enquiry of dependencies of patch

You cant normally install a patch without its dependencies unless you manually turned off the dependency check so if you didnt do this your patch install was fine (as long as no errors when it installed).

Re: Enquiry of dependencies of patch

Unless you turn of the option for checking dependencies the software will will not install and subsequently fail the analysis. Changing options from within 'swinstall' should not be done unless you know exactly what you are doing. Not changing the dependencies will result in the program checking everything. Make sure you review the logfile before committing to go ahead and install.
One thing to note is that you *should* always create an ignite recovery tape before installing any patches. This is a very important practise.

Here's how, providing you have the tools loaded.

# /opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -v -a /dev/rmt/0mn

Re: Enquiry of dependencies of patch

hi,
while installing if u say enforce dependencies =false u can install a patch with out dependencies. later u can install dependencies also. but, always it is better installing dependencies first then the patch.

Re: Enquiry of dependencies of patch

You should always install the dependencies to insure that the patch operates properly.

There may be times when a dependencies has already been installed on the system. In most cases this would be fine, and you only need to install the missing dependent patches.

Use swcopy to copy multiple patches into one depot and install them at once. If the patches require a reboot, using this method results in only one system reboot.

Searching for patch dependencies can often result in confusion. The patch catalog can throw us in a loop, so there are tools that can assist, like ITRC's CPM (Custom Patch Manager). Using this tool will help you generate a recommended bundle, custom for your system. You can let it select the patches, then filter out what you don't want. The patches are bundled for download and easy installation.

CPM: ITRC --> Maintenance & Support --> Patching --> Custom Patch Bundles (Custom Patch Manager)
