error message while booting v2200 class system

error message while booting v2200 class system

Hi,
I recently booted my system and I received
the following message

Sep 15 23:40:16 hsapd5 vmunix: btlan6: Initializing 10/100BASE-TX card at 0/1/0....
Sep 15 23:40:16 hsapd5 vmunix: btlan6: Initializing 10/100BASE-TX card at 5/1/0....
Sep 15 23:40:16 hsapd5 vmunix: btlan6: NOTE: MII Link Status Not OK - Switch Connection to AUI at 0/1/0....
Sep 15 23:40:16 hsapd5 vmunix: btlan6: timeout: DMA timeout occurred at 0/1/0
Sep 15 23:40:16 hsapd5 vmunix: btlan6: reset state is 550 at 0/1/0....
Sep 15 23:40:16 hsapd5 vmunix: btlan6: WARNING: AUI Loopback Failed at 0/1/0....
Sep 15 23:40:16 hsapd5 vmunix: btlan6: reset state is 575 at 0/1/0....
Sep 15 23:40:16 hsapd5 vmunix: btlan6: WARNING: BNC Loopback Failed at 0/1/0....
Sep 15 23:40:16 hsapd5 vmunix: btlan6: timeout: DMA timeout occurred at 0/1/0

What could this mean....I verified with ioscan and ifconfig and there is no configuration implemented in /etc/rc.config.d/netconf for lan0....Is this normal ???

Re: error message while booting v2200 class system

George,

I'm confused. Your boot messages indicate that there are two LAN Controllers in your V2200.

Are you indicating that there is No Lan Configuration in /etc/rc.config.d/netconf? Or is there just no configuration info for Lan0? Does ioscan show the btlan6 device driver attached to any controller?

In any event, I would recommend using the set_param utility or SAM to configure them!

Hope that helps!

Re: error message while booting v2200 class system

George,

Please attach a copy of your netconf and bootlog. It might be a little easier to visulize the problem from there.

I would suspect that the lan0 must be in the netconf file, by the mere virtue that there are controller cards on the system to begin with. Just because you are not using Lan0, does not mean that you shouldn't have an entry in the netconf file.

Just to be sure, please send the requested files.

Talk to you soon.

Re: error message while booting v2200 class system

Looks like there is no physical cable connected to this Lan card. Whenever a server comes up it tries to initialized the LAN cards on the system. This is a normal message. Try doing a lanscan and see what is the state, is it up/down? Even though "lan0" config is not in netconf file "lanscan" will still show it as "lan0" with the H/W and state as "down". In a nutshell you need not have to worry about it as i guess all other cards on the server are functional. If you really want to go in detail of it then post your netconf, o/p of lanscan, initial bootup message of syslog.log file and hpgsc100conf file if any.

Here are 2 files. 1st one is the messages file 2 one is a collection of commands that query network inetrface status. This should be able to pinpoint the problem I think, if not let me know...

Re: error message while booting v2200 class system

Sounds like you have a duplex mismatch. Install the latest patches for the lan card, copy over the new configuration file from /usr/newconfig/etc/rc.config.d/hp#####conf, then set the lan interface name and speed and re-read the configuration script from /sbin/rc2.d/S###hp### start

i.e, for btlan6 the config file is hpsppci100conf and the start up script is S333hpsppci100
