Hello everyone,
I'm using fbackup on HP-UX 11.1. I don't have any problem with hp dds-4 data cartridge 40 GB but when I try to run it with hp dat72 (72 GB) everytime I got this message:
fbackup(1004): session begins on Tue Apr 26 10:52:44 2005
fbackup(3038): output file /dev/rmt/0m is not a valid device file for backup
fbackup(3019): would you like to enter a new output file?
My ioscan show:
tape HP C7438A
/dev/rmt/c1t5d0BEST /dev/rmt/c1t5d0BESTb /dev/rmt/c1t5d0BESTn /dev/rmt/c1t5d0BESTnb
There is no problem with this drive when I use tar (for backup). I saw one similar question in the forum but since the author did not said what she did that fix the problem and I tried all suggestions I'm at a lost. Thank you in advance for your help.
Thanks and regards
Teo

Solution
You may need to install the latest SCSI Tape (stape) and fbackup patches. I ran into the same issue with an LTO drive on an 11.0 machine and was advised by HP to try the latest stape and fbackup patches.
Downtime is scheduled for this weekend to see if that helps us.
The latest stape patch for 11.11 is PHKL_29899
http://www6.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/patchDetail.do?BC=patch.breadcrumb.main|patch.breadcrumb.search|&patchid=PHKL_29899&context=hpux:800:11:11
The latest fbackup patch for 11.11 is PHCO_28998
http://www6.itrc.hp.com/service/patch/patchDetail.do?BC=patch.breadcrumb.main|patch.breadcrumb.search|&patchid=PHCO_28998&context=hpux:800:11:11
It appears that neither patch has any dependencies. The PHKL_29899 will force a kernel rebuild and a reboot though.
