Ethernet card does switch to 100MB

Hello,
we have a 10/100MB PCI Ethernet card in our D370 with HP-UX 11. I can not switch to 100MB. If use
lanadmin -X 100HD 0
and immediately after
lanadmin -x
if shows '100HD autoneg=off'.
After the initialisation process of the card lanadmin -x shows '10HD autoneg=off'. I can switch between HD and FD, but not between 10 and 100MB. The other side of the cable is an cisco switch with autonrg. = off.

Thanks in advance
Thomas

Re: Ethernet card does switch to 100MB

are you using a cat5 cable?
Is the switch hardcoded to do 10BT?

Re: Ethernet card does switch to 100MB

Hi Thomas,

If the switch port was set up 10MB when
you started the system or configured it,
it will default to 10BT. You will not be
able to change it, even if the port
properties have changed. For some reason it
hard codes itself as 10BT and cannot be
changed. You will need to change the
switch port 100BT and then cold boot the
system not reboot. We had a similar problem
on an L class and this fixed it. If you have
loaded any patches these will also be
affected.

Re: Ethernet card does switch to 100MB

Hi,
the cable is cat5, the switch port is setting to 100HD, the patch set (PHNE_22461) is installed, the box is cold booted => no change, it is only working at 10MB. I have no idea, mayby our card is only working at low speed but why they named the card '100BT' ;-] ?
Thanks for help

Re: Ethernet card does switch to 100MB

Have you installed the appropriate 100BT software on the system? They are all found on the Applications CD #1. After installing that, you need to edit the appropriate file in /etc/rc.config.d (like hpbase100conf and hppci100conf) depending on which 100BT software you install.

Re: Ethernet card does switch to 100MB

if you are able to communicate to the rest of your network, then the issue is with the cisco switch. If this is the case, then change autoneg on the cisco switch to on or peg that port to 100BT (on the cisco side).

Re: Ethernet card does switch to 100MB

a couple things - strictly speaking, there is no "PCI" 100BT NIC for the D class. there is an HSC card that happens to have an HSC to PCI bus adaptor and a PCI 100BT chipset :)

are you using the HSC card, or is it actually an EISA 10/100 card?

all the suggestions about making sure you have all the latest patches are good ones.

also, triple check that your cat5 cable is a good cable and that it works in two other systems.

Re: Ethernet card does switch to 100MB

Hi all,
thanks for very useful help. We found the problem, it is one of the cables between the box, the patchfields and the switch. I put a direct connection with am extra cable between the D370 an the switch and its running in 100FD well.
Our hardware people told me befor, the cables are ok ...
To rick, you are right, it's my misstake, the card is HSC 10/100Base-T :-)
Best wisches
