Hi guys.
Sorry when post this thread to this forum but I hope that I can receive more answers from everyone.
Now my system is running on HP-UP 9000 series:
rp5470 and rp2450.
Storage are: VA7400.
We are going to upgrade to new server and storage :
+ Rp4440-8 6 CPU/1GHz, 16GB RAM
+ SAN HP EVA3000 (8x36 Gb).
Can anyone tell me what is main diffirence between them (Server and Storage)? What is advanced and advantage?
Has any documentation?
Has any suggestion?
Looking for your answer as soon as possible.
Appreciate your help in advance !
Regard,
Jimkery

SolutionHi Jimkery,
I dont think Storage and Server needs an explanation. Still simply ,
1.)
Storage is exclusively for storing data it wont do any data processing like a server.
2.)see the doc for EVA 300
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/eva3000/index.html
For entry llevel storages:-
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/entrystorage.html
and for HP midrange storages see
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/midrangestorage.html
For Enterprise storages:-
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/enterprisestorage.html
3.)
You get all the required info at
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/index.html
If u need any more docs pls give your email ID. Will send you via email.
regards,
Syam

Re: EVA 3000 and HP-UX
Be careful, you may need more spindles to get the number of I/O per second you need. The VA7400 isn't that slow and while the EVA is fast, backend performance is dicated by the number of physical disks more than anything else. You might want to consider 16 drives of 18GB each or enough so you can mirror rather than RAID 5. Measure how many IOPS you are doing now, estimate how many more you will need, and tell HP to configure the array to meet that target.
