Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

Hello,
i see the following problem. When i start a X session from my pc with exceed 10.0 to a remote server it takes 8 seconds to get the logon screen from the server. But on other pc it takes around 1 minute to get the logon screen. The connetion to other server works normal. The server is HP-UX 11.0. What can i do?

Are the PC's configurations the same? Same cpu rating, same memory, same network connection speed?

Re: Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

try adding the pc's ip-address to the /etc/hosts file of your hpux server.

Re: Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

The pc are nearly the same, and i have tried to add the pc ip-addresses to the servers /etc/hosts, but the problem persits. When i start Exceed i get after 2 seconts a grey screen and after 60 second it will be black. I thought that there will be tried some different connetion methods. But how can i verify this?

Re: Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

and your /etc/nsswitch.conf file is?

hosts: files dns

Re: Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

Yes the resolv.oonf has hosts: files [NOTFOUND] dns. Dns resolution works fine for the pc´s.

Re: Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

Are both pc's configured to connect the same way? I am a bit rusty on exceed (I now use reflectionsX, but there a couple of connection methods in the configuration screen: one is direct - where you specify the system you are connecting to, and the other is broadcast - where it searches for systems...........

Re: Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

I use the following command line on all pc`s

"C:\Program Files\Hummingbird\Connectivity\10.00\Exceed\exceed.exe" -d 6 -m query -h 111.111.111.111 -w single"

and one with this problem is in the same network like my pc. From this pc with problem, i can connect to other server without problem, so the difference must be on the server.

Re: Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

just a thought.

Could you add the unix hostname and ip-address to the windows hosts file (\windows\system32\etc\drivers\hosts)

Re: Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

Are the Exceed font configurations the same on the PCs?

Re: Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

I have added the hostname to the pc hostfile but no change, and i see no difference in the font configuration from the ps`s. Or is there a specific entry which i should verify?

Re: Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

Have you checked the basic network connections between the PCs and the server? Are they on different subnets? Do they route differently? Perhaps you could try some timing tests.

Are you using XDMCP query or XDMCP broadcast? Is this the latest version of Exceed you have? Exceed 2006, aka 11, seems to be more stable than 10.

Sorry it's questions rather than answers, but perhaps something will turn up.

Re: Exceed needs 60 seconds to bring up the logon screen

The pc´s are on the same subnet. When i do for example a ssh connection it comes up in about 1 second. We have only Exceed 10 on our company. And what i want is the CDE desktop from the server. Can i find some informations on a log file for the connection? I looked in the Xerrors file, but there is nothing logged.
