Re: Extended ITRC Forum Statistics

Hey HGN,

it's updated, it's just these users never posted a question here, so there are no answers to assign points to, that why it's empty:

Re: Extended ITRC Forum Statistics

For those who never read the explanation:

http://mirrors.develooper.com/hpux/stats.html

It also answers Florian's FAQ

I will try to do a forced full update tonight, so next wednesday's stat is more in sync with reality than the usual stats.
Note that this might make some fast movers appear that are in fact no fast movers, but got their points in other parts of the forum.

I had actually read the explanation some time ago, but I'm not a good programmer and so it's probably skipped my memory.

Also, if there's too little people asking, You never get FAQs to look at.

Re: Extended ITRC Forum Statistics

Alex:

Excellent Work PERIOD.

You taking suggestions too?

I think that in the date fields... if it can be done.... only the actual dates from when the updates happen should be there. Maybe someday the stats will be updated every day, (or geez... maybe they are already and I don't know about it), but selecting a day other then a Wednesday, at least in my first initial look at the site still pulled up the stats from the previous Wednesdays update. Not at all a bad thing, just an observation.

Re: Extended ITRC Forum Statistics

You can also select *any* date and then

1. Fall back to the last know stat on that moment
or
2. Interpolate the values as derived from the stats that are available

Stats are still only run on wednesday, unless something other requires a change (HP changed software, the regular collect crashed, the system went down, HP's site went down, ...), or I decide to do an update for whatever reason.
A full-forced re-fetch is currently running, so unless things break down, wednesday's stats should be in sync with reality.

Re: Extended ITRC Forum Statistics

Also graphs are on their way and more detailed countries stats too. I have plenty of ideas, but it will take some time to bring them to life.

And I hope that some users that have "thumbs-down", will fix it, so next update we won't see any ;-))))

Re: Extended ITRC Forum Statistics

Really great contribution Alex.

But still requires some stability as the link is down sometimes. I am sure it will be provided soon.

Also I will suggest a symbol againnst the "Last reply date" Column to show user as currently active or inactive participant.

Re: Extended ITRC Forum Statistics

Hey, thanx.

I already thought abou some sign that the user didn't post for a long time.

Except for today's problems with the apache it's pretty stable, I have couple of other sites there with many users and didn't have any complaints.

Re: Extended ITRC Forum Statistics

Thanks Alex and Merijn,

Nice layout! I like the format of the Diff column, which now includes all those who have earned points.

I am surprised to see so many regulars with a thumbs-down. IMHO, everyone who tries to help deserves at least a couple points.

Re: Extended ITRC Forum Statistics

I didn't read through all the other suggestions here, and maybe I missed it somewhere on there, but is there a list of rabid, umm... err... I mean rapid advancers???

Re: Extended ITRC Forum Statistics

hi alex,

2 words ---> excellent work.

definitely more graphics pleasing and faster download as not all the informations r "cramped" into 1 page.

probably only need to work on better search function, other than userid, i.e. names, etc.

regards.

Re: Extended ITRC Forum Statistics

Nice Job Alex, but IMHO the 'thumbs down' needs to go.
I understand the intent, and have thought this trough myself before I saw you topic (exchanged Email with Merijn on the matter last week!). I was also wondering how to make sense out of the bunny-rate. For some case it is tell tale, but for others I find it almost insulting.

Alex wrote:

"And I hope that some users that have "thumbs-down", will fix it, so next update we won't see any ;-))))"

An example that showed up just now was "Jack Berkenbosch". He scored all his points in the 'Large printer' forum. ( http://forums1.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/categoryhome.do?categoryId=222 ).
I checked a handful of 'no-bunny' answers.
ALL of those answers were at least reasonable, and possibly perfect (I can not really judge). ALL of those answers were to topics by users that assigned 0 points to any of their responses, and mostly had just one question.
Please explain to me how Jack should 'fix' his helpful work?
He should certainly not be 'reprimanded', but he should extra rewarded for 'bothering' to answer topics which are unlikely to score points!

Now just in case you wonder, I do not know Jack. Never saw him, nor a large printer, in my life. (Yes I suppose we do have a link through 'the netherlands').

An evil streak in me wonders whether a high bunny-rate can even be a negative indication?! If you have been around the forums for a while you will recognize 'bunny opportinuties' as well as 'no-acknowledgement-likely' topics.
- A question writer with headgear will likely assign some points.
- Some writers always assign 10 points irrespective of the answer (I do not appreciate that myself)
- Some writers, notably first time writers, never assign points 'so why bother answerring'

I all, while the bunny-rate gives the impression to be able to rate the answer quality of a helper there are far too many opportunities for false positivs and false negatives. It should not be highlighted with a symbol (imho of course!).
Let's just stick to the original meaning: The presence of bunny suggests at least a worthwhile, if not ultimate, reply. No more, no less. The absense of a bunny means nothing. Therefor the average of the presence and absence does not mean anythign either (the garbage-in, garbage out law)

Thanks for listening,
and thanks for the creative data use!
Regards,
Hein.
