Re: Extending a root VG in Vpar

no special procedure, simply take an Ignite recovery image, and re-install the Vpar, creating the new size you want for /

Re: Extending a root VG in Vpar

Thanks for your quick response.

I have a Ignite backup take for that partition. How do I restore for only that partition. I know the procedure for a npar . Is that the same for vpar also.
Also you have mentioned to reinstall the vpar , will this distrub other vpars in the a that npar.

Re: Extending a root VG in Vpar

Each vpar should have it's own ignite image as I would expect each vpar to be somewhat different.

One issue involved is that with a tape you will need to get to the BCH in order to boot the tape assuming the tape is available to that vpar. This would require all vpars to be down.

Re: Extending a root VG in Vpar

you don't have to take down other vpars if you have taken image onto Ignite server. Keep in mind that Ignite server should be on same subnet to re-ignite clients.

vpar2:# shutdown -hy 0

logon to other vpar which is running and issue:

vparboot -p vpar2 -I ,/opt/ignite/bin/WINSTALL

logon to console to access GUI to re-size / for the client.

Thanks for the response,

We do not have ignite server. Ignite tape restore procedure is same as that of NPAR of any precautions /steps needs to be followed?

Re: Extending a root VG in Vpar

no. You need to shutdown all other vpars and then make sure you hooked tape drive correct vpar which you are going to ignite it.

Re: Extending a root VG in Vpar

I believe you will have to stop the boot process and do a SEA and then boot from the tape device. Do you have a tape device dedicated to each Npar that all vpars on that npar can access? If not, you will have to boot the ignite tape remotely and I don't know how or even, if you can do that. I would definitely recommend that you setup at least one vpar per npar as an ignite server.
