Re: Extending logical volume lvol4

From your lvdisplay:

...
Allocation strict/contiguous
...

To solve this, think about why it is set and consider to change. Have a look at

http://docs.hp.com/en/B2355-60105/lvchange.1M.html

lvchange -C n ...

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Hi Torsten,
I have no idea as to why it is set as strict bcoz its hardwre mirrored too.........

should i go ahead wid lvchange -C n

Re: Extending logical volume lvol4

Because it is mounted to "/backup" I can't see any reason to set it to contiguous.
Go ahead and change the setting.
But you have only ~4.3GB free, so you can extend up to ~14.3GB only.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Extending logical volume lvol4

hi Torsten,
Actually i have 46 gb of free space...so i can go ahead with the setting change na..should i again make it contiguous and strict....

lvchange -C n /dev/vg00/lvol4
lvchange -s n /dev/vg00/lvol4

Re: Extending logical volume lvol4

Once it became non-contiguous (after extend) you cannot make it contiguous again, because it isn't contiguous then.

Strict does not apply, because you have only 1 disk device - the logical RAID disk.

Your free space is here:

PE Size (Mbytes) 32
Total PE 4346
Alloc PE 2884
Free PE 1462

32MB * freePE
(don't know what I calculated earlier ...)

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: Extending logical volume lvol4

Hi Torsten,
Once it became non-contiguous (after extend) you cannot make it contiguous again, because it isn't contiguous then.

Is it safe 4 me to go ahead with then...since i need to increase this mount point definitely.....
i.e it wont create any issues for my Hardware mirrored O.S. disks...

Solution

Re: Extending logical volume lvol4

Only /stand, / and swap must be contiguous.

contiguous means, there is no "gap" between parts of a LVOL. If you make your LVOL4 non-contiguous it will extend using space at the end of the disk - no problem for "data" lvols.

Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.
