external DAT24e & c3700 error

I have a c3700 HP Workstation running HP 11.00 with all upto date patches.
I have a storage works 2100 connected thru scsi.

I am trying to install the DAT 24e external tape drive, I have no problem installing the tape drive, but on boot it will not find an internal scsi drive!

I have from the DAT24e, 50 pin low density to 68 pin High density cable (wide) connected to the Storage works 2100 (Daisy chain).
Yes, the tape drive is terminated as being the last of the chain.

I have tried every possible change in the scsi ids, still I get the same problem, can not find one internal scsi drive.

I have started with the default scsi id of 3 for the tape drive and went from there.

The internal drive that it does not see it scsi id 11.

I am attaching output from an ioscan -f with out the tape drive.
I am at my last option of getting a different cable or at least a converter from the 68 WSE to the 68 NSE. ( The only other scsi connector on the c3700 workstation.) Is this possible, or right?

Re: external DAT24e & c3700 error

Quite an intestesting problem.

The first thing I'd try is giving the tape drive a direct connection to the scsi card. If this requires a different cable, go for it.

Since the tape drive doesn't show up on ioscan I'd say cables or termination are the issue.

You have put the stape driver into the kernel. You won't be able to use the tape drive if thats not in (sam kernel drivers)

Can you tell me which scsi bus this device is attached to? Then I can look at your ioscan and suggest a scsi id that will work.

Re: external DAT24e & c3700 error

Sorry, must state that the ioscan was done with out the tape drive connected. I had to get the system up and running.

Yes, I put stape in the kernel as well and did a reboot. I can get the tape drive working (confirmed it with the ltt software)

Still problem with cabling, since the only other open scsi connection on the c3700 is a NSE scsi.... Looking to see if I can get a converter for that... Or do I need a new cable that does that...

Re: external DAT24e & c3700 error

Hi,

Itis perhaps possible but not very wise to connect a narrow, single ended device to a Ultra 2 LVD bus. The entire bus will change to Narrow SE and have big impact on the performance of all connected devices.
