External Disks and the L1000

Here's a problem/question I'll throw out for anyone to comment on.

I have an older L1000 which is just used by one developer for testing. Its got an external Pioneer DVD/CD-Rom and I was looking to attach an external SCSI drive to increase capacity on this machine for a particular project.

Our server is an L1000 running 11.00 with some minor patches for various things but nothing particularly special.

(here's an ioscan showing our disk configuration)

Class I H/W Path Driver S/W State H/W Type Description

I was feeling a bit dense last week and ordered up an essentially random off the shelf 73Gb SCSI disk to attach and did so, however it appears that the disk is not single edged and so will not show up on/as an addressable drive.

As it stands we're addressing our external CD as the first (and only at the moment) external SCSI device, Obviously we'll be daisy chaining In short, can anyone recommend a higher capacity (+30Gb) external SCSI disk drive which is likely to be friendly to an old L1000 and be seen and willing to work?!

I'm currently considering 2 SE external versions of our internal Seagates just to make sure that the drivers likely exist on the machine already.

J

Re: External Disks and the L1000

Hi,
When you say external disk, do you mean to say, are you connecting the disk in a disk station??

I have added adn configured 36GB Hard disk in a HASS box connected to an L1000 some time back. The Disk was single ended.

Naavej,

No, actually I was hoping/considering a simple external SCSI disk or two if necessary, daisy chained from the CD-Rom/DVD unit to the SCSI controller would be sufficient.

Re: External Disks and the L1000

hi,

The non single-ended disk mostly will not work on SE controller.
Can you specify the make/model of the hard disk which you have bought.

I think any external single ended disk will solve your problem.

Re: External Disks and the L1000

Yeah, The disk I had bought was a Maxtor 73.4Gb 3.5in 50pin SCSI but it did not recognize, when I attached it and brought sam up, the system would not list any disks or other peripherals at all, so I'll assume it wasn't working for me.

I'm thinking I should get something nearly equivalent to the internals that I have so I might avoid some sort of driver issues.

Regards and Thanks,

Re: External Disks and the L1000

Hi,

I've got an L2000 with a pair of SEAGATE ST136475LW disks in a tin hanging off the external SCSI. They are quite old, but they are 36 Gig drives. Hope this helps to point you towards something which will work.
