Fail to telnet in HP-UX

HP-UX 10.20, HP 9000.

I cant telent into my HP server after a power failure reboot. But the console telnet can still work.

Any clue?

TIA

Re: Fail to telnet in HP-UX

Ay, you might want to check if the network card is still healthy! Go look behind the network card and see if there is a blinking fault light. If there is, you might want to powercycle the machine to see if that fixes it. you can also use the lanadmin command and the lanscan commands to check the relative health of your network card.
nothing wrong with me that a few lines of code cannot fix!

Re: Fail to telnet in HP-UX

If you can telnet from the console, I assume that your NIC is okay. Check if the system is on Remote Mode. Thus, the F4 fuction key shows/has an astrix (*)next to it on the console. Otherwise press it. This is what I normally check first when users can't login.

Check your /etc/rc.log to make sure that all the services have started succesfully.

Re: Fail to telnet in HP-UX

1. Check for your LAN devices.
# lanscan
Hardware Station Crd Hardware Net-Interface NM MAC HP DLPI Mjr
Path Address In# State NameUnit State ID Type Support Num
8/16/6 0x080009AFBD8B 0 UP lan0 DOWN 4 ETHER Yes 52
8/12/1/0 0x0060B0C18B9B 1 UP lan1 UP 5 ETHER Yes 119

and be sure that it is up.

2. Check for your network interface.
# ifconfig lan0
lan0: flags=862
inet 192.153.12.1 netmask ffffff00 broadcast 192.153.12.255

and be sure that your IP's are still there............

Re: Fail to telnet in HP-UX

I would check netstat -rn and see if you can ping your gateway...
