Re: fbackup error ...help reqd.

Hi

Have you tried any of the other device files for fbackup:-

ie /dev/rmt/c0t4d0BEST

What happens?

It may not be the answer you want, but it sounds accurate.

Re: fbackup error ...help reqd.

fbackup is much more sophisticated than tar or cpio so it needs to query the tape drive in detail for capabilities. Get the latest patches for fbackup and SAM, or better yet, install the latest SupportPlus bundle from your SupportPlus CDROM (2002 version is best) or get the latest bundles from ITRC (click on the "Maintenance and Support" string at the top of ther page, then look for SupportPlus.

Hi

Loohs like fbackup does not recognize your DLT drive - what make and model is it.

http://www.tandberg.com/dlt/dlt8000.html

Here's the website, I had a quick surf through the 'drivers' area and did not find much.

I would say that if the product is still under warranty or lease, submit a fault call to the supplier / vendor to get assistance in setting this up (hey, they're the guys who should know all about this stuff!)

Re: fbackup error ...help reqd.

Hi Guys,

I also have the same problem in my system. I have a V class system connected with Silo 9940 tape library (DLT 8000 Tape drives). I'm able to backup the data by using tar, dd and legato with no problem. But fbackup is not working with that tape drives. Getting the same error as mentioned as mentioned top in Nitin's question...

Re: fbackup error ...help reqd.

When you try to put a DDS4 tape in a DDS3 drive you get the same result. Perhaps it is worth considering this in relation to your DLT tapes.
