FC10 - The disk device is not on the FC link.
Hi,
I get a EMS message every night from our cluster (2 node, HP-UX 11.00, N-class), which have 2 FC10 disk enclosures attached (via 2 hubs). There are disks in the first 9 slots in the FC10 enclosures.
Event data from monitor:
Event Time..........: Thu Aug 12 20:22:30 2004
Severity............: CRITICAL
Monitor.............: dm_ses_enclosure
Event #.............: 112
Summary:
Enclosure at hardware path 1/8/0/0.8.0.255.1.6.0 : Hardware failure
Description of Error:
The disk device is not on the FC link.
Probable Cause / Recommended Action:
The enclosure has determined the disk in
slot 2 is operating outside expected
parameters and bypassed the disk device.
Check the connection, re-seat, or
inspect/verify the disk drive.
The 2:nd disk in the FC10 is OK, what to do?

Re: FC10 - The disk device is not on the FC link.
If the disks show up and work in your system, you should run hardware tests next.
use xstm (X) cstm or mstm and test the drives. If they pass, ignore the warning. If they fail, get your data off and follow the instructions in the EMS message.
I will say connecting to disk via TWO hubs is a little unusual and could be fooling the EMS program. If there is a way to simply the setup or connect via a switch that might help.

Re: FC10 - The disk device is not on the FC link.
Hi Fredric,
Was this disk replaced some time in the past?
If so & you failed to run
fcmsutil /dev/tdX replace_dsk remote-N-port-ID
that could account for the messages.
Whenever a disk is replaced in an FC enclosure, you have to run that command.
HTH,
Jeff
