Fibre channel problem

Hello Masters

We have a HP L1000 box with two different model fibre channel controller installed
Controller models are A5158A and A6795A.

System was working fine before installing A6795A.

Now online diagnostic shows A5158A controller as FAILED and A6795A as unknown, but system is able to access LUNS on diskarrays.

A5158A connected to Compaq RA8000 Disk array is in SAN setup.

A6795A is connected to EVA5000 Disk array.

We are getting intermittend Fibre channel
link error in all server connected to RA8000.

1.Can any tell whether two different model controller can install on same server ?

2.Precuations before installing a different software driver for diffrent storage controller ?

Thanks in advance

Shibu

Re: Fibre channel problem

If the L1 is pci, id verify what slot the cards were installed in. I believe there are 2 turbo slots that should or shouldn't contain FDDI or FIbre.

Re: Fibre channel problem

All slots (32/64 bit 33/66mhz pci) are
capable to accept these cards.
See here how to install cards/drivers/patches -
http://www.software.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayInstallInfo.do?productNumber=FibrChanl00

Also you'll need to install SecurePath software
to work with EVA.Check the switch that ra8000 is connected to (porterrshow, switchshow, supportshow) for possible errors on ports.Use fcmsutil on hp-ux to check FC HBAs after you've installed patches (and drivers if needed)

Re: Fibre channel problem

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the A6795A driver supports both cards. You should no longer need a separate driver for each.

Also, firmware and patching are very important (especially when adding a newer card to an older installation).
