I was wondering if any one had or knew here I could get some kind of flow chart or reference to how Volume Groups , Logical Volumes , Physical Volumes, File Systems and anything else related "flows" together.
Thanks
Richard

SolutionA good reference is chapter-6, "Administering a System: Managing Disks and Files" in, "Managing Systems and Workgroups: A Guide for HP-UX System Administrators
HP 9000 Computers":
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/B2355-90742/B2355-90742.html
Another, related, paper worth reading is "HP-UX Large Files White Paper Version 1.4 (HP-UX 10.x, HP-UX 11.0)":
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/os/lgfiles4.pdf
For a view of filesystems, have a look at the "HP-UX 10.0 File System Layout White Paper":
http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/5963-8942/5963-8942.html
Regards!

Re: File systems and LVM ..
The best reference I have is one of the HP Professional Books 'Disk & File Management Tasks on HP-UX' by Tom Madell. It starts with disk basics including the old sectioned disks and goes through logical volumes. Both HFS and VxFS filesystems and their maintenance is covered including OnlineJFS. This book gives you a pretty good idea of what's going on under the hood as well as what to do when it's broke. Look for it at www.prenhall.com.

Re: File systems and LVM ..
you could get the "Xvg" from the HP RC in Atlanta:
ftp://contrib:9unsupp8@hprc.external.hp.com/sysadmin
It enables you to actually draw pictures of your LVM
configuration, and shows a lot of details...
