stuff
stuff
stuff
Now, when I go to print, I get
stuff
stuff
stuff
stuff
and so one out past the page (it will print blank pages since the text is tabbed over so far). I also get a page afterwards with the user name who sent the print and the print job number (laserjet-2, for example). What's the deal? Anyone seen this? Like I said, worked fine before with 10.20. Thanks.

Re: files printing out wierd
I can only imagine that your second example had the word "stuff" marching across the page. instead of in a nice left-aligned column. Are these remote printers accepting print directly via the LAN or is your print going through another UNIX or NT server to get to the printer?
It sounds like you are somehow victim to DOS files having the "^M" at the end of each line where UNIX does not. Using /tmp/myfile as the file you're trying to print and myprinter as the printer you're trying to print to, try the following:
ux2dos < /tmp/myfile | lp -dmyprinter
What do you see?

Re: files printing out wierd
Turn the "BANNER=off" if you do not want seperate page with printout information.
Use jetadmin to do this.
#jetadmin-> configure->modify spooler queue-> name-of-printer->additional parameters->Baner Page.
Thanks.
Prashant.

SolutionSeveral things are possible. If you added printers with SAM, I suspect you actually added Remote Printers rather than JetDirect
network printers. Typically, you are much better off with JetDirect printers rather than remote (rlp) printers. If so, remove the remote printers and then add them using the JetDirect software. If you are using remote printers on both boxes make sure that the Remote Printer Name is set the same on both boxes. Network printer interfaces are very sensitive to the remote printer (queue) name. e.g. TEXT and Text are not the same. If is very easy to modify the interface files to disable the banner page. Typically there is a TEXT queue and a RAW queue and only the TEXT queue will do CRLF expansion. Cd to /var/spool/lp/interface and locate the desired interface script. Typically all you have to do is set BANNER="".

Re: files printing out wierd
Seems like you have to switch the banner off. Have you added these printers thru Jetadmin or you have them configured in some other manner.
Thanks

Re: files printing out wierd
Don't waste your time with web jetadmin unless your a sadist. Good ol' jetadmin is still available via ftp:
ftp ftp.hp.com
cd /pub/networking/software
ls HP*
HP10d621.SD for 10.20
HP11d621.SD for 11.x
(With eternal gratitude to Rita)
Cheers,
Jim

Re: files printing out wierd
Since I like things nice and sane, I went and downloaded the jetadmin from the ftp site. It has the extension of ".sd". I know that i should know how to convert this into a depot for install, but I can't think of it for the life of me. Anyone remember how to prepare it for install? Thanks. (I should just write down everything in a book as opposed to post it notes everywhere...)

Re: files printing out wierd
Assuming you did a binary ftp download, all you need to do is copy the file to a convenient location (/var/tmp) and run swinstall; the file is already in swdepot format. When prompted for the source, answer local directory with the path /var/tmp/HP10d621.SD. I'll bet you were confused by not having the .depot suffix. Remember this here is unix that there suffix don't mean nothing.

Re: files printing out wierd
ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/HP11e118.SD
(This is for HPUX 11.0)
You may also want these files as well (not really necessary though):
ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/ja243en.install.unx
ftp.hp.com/pub/networking/software/ja243en.readme.unx
