Font server problem HP-UX 10.20

Hello, I have a HP-UX 10.20 system and no font server was installed on first installation.
I'm trying to access an application from X client (Exceed) and no font are retreived. I know I can install font server on first install, but: is there any way to install with system running?

Thank you and regards,

Re: Font server problem HP-UX 10.20

Hi
sure font server is not installed?
Usually is installed by default with os, but not running.
Check in /etc/rc.config.d/xfs if the control variable, maybe XFS but i'm not sure, is set to 1.

If, as usual, is set to 0, change it and start the service with /sbin/init.d/xfs start

if these files don't exist font server is really not installed, in this case you have to find the operating system cd and use swinstall to install the package.
Right now i don't have a HPUX machine on hand, so i don't remember the right fileset, but if u take a look at the content list on the cd you should simply find it out.

Hope this helps

Re: Font server problem HP-UX 10.20

To see if you have the fontserver loaded:

# swlist -l fileset | grep -i fontsrv

Re: Font server problem HP-UX 10.20

hello,
check whether font server is installed with your OS.
#swlist -l fileset | grep fontsrv
and if it is installed check out whether rc startup script is added in /sbin/init.d and it's control variable in/etc/rc.config.d/xfs is set to 1. if not then start X font server by #/usr/bin/X11/xfs -port 7000 -daemon and add appropriate rc scripts.

Re: Font server problem HP-UX 10.20

Hi

Follow this

1 - The font server needs configuring
to include CDE
fonts in catalog

EDIT: /etc/X11/fs/config

Add ",/usr/dt/config/xfonts/C" to
end of
"catalogue = ..." line

EDIT: /etc/rc.config.d/xfs

Set the variable:
"RUN_X_FONT_SERVER=1"

EXECUTE: /sbin/init.d/xfs start

If tfont-server is already running,
kill and restart it.

2 - Force CDE to add server to
X-Server font-path
by edit of the Xsetup file.
(NOTE: This steps NEEDS
IP address of the CDE session server.
You can get
this with : nslookup `hostname`.)

COPY: /usr/dt/config/Xsetup

to

/etc/dt/config/Xsetup

IF IT DOES NOT EXIST

EDIT: /etc/dt/config/Xsetup

Add this line to /etc/dt/config/Xsetup
replacing "IPADDRESS" with IP
of the server as returned
from "nslookup `hostname`":

$XDIR/xset fp+ tcp/IPADDRESS:7000 1>/dev/null
