How do you manually force a NIC to use the 1000 gigabit port and not default to auto.

Solution
You don't.
Gigabit NIC's for HP/UX must be set to autonegotiate to work properly.
If lanadmin -x 0 (change zero to appopriate figure) does not show 1000 BaseT autonegotiate then look at the cabling or switch port/switch configuration for the issue.

Re: Forcing a NIC to use the 1000 Gigabit port
Hi Miro,
You cannot set a gigabit card to 1000 without AUTO Negotiation on.
Only supported options are 10 hd/fd, 100 hd/fd and auto_on. For 1 Gig, it should be AUTO_ON with appropriate settings on the switch.

You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try
