Re: Forumers statistics

Cool. I was surprised by how few people have hats (or rather, how high up on the list you are if you have one), but I guess it makes sense. Kinda neat to see it all laid out. Thanks!

Re: Forumers statistics

Hi all,

nice work, Carlos!

I try do this on a monthly base in Dan's monthly-thread, but due to problems with the 'j' members page for a couple of weeks I am running late on this :-(

It is not very sophisticated:
- download the member pages (wget)
- AWK out the names, ids, and points
- sort and map to hats (AWK again)

But the extracting the country would need to download the individual member's page - and with all the problems the forums-server has had with spiders/crawlers/bots and such in the recent months I would not like to do this too often...
Though, doing it for the "top 50 piranhas" (Harry or Michael call us that way, IIRC :-) would perhaps NOT hurt so much.

Re: Forumers statistics

Hi all:

I am very glad you like this small statistics... ( maybe on Friday will be update to 100th).

I am sorry Paula, i know you are from UK ( if i donk make any typo, dont feel myself), in next release will patched.

But statistics are for get ideas, and this is the aim of this... What are your thinks about..?

Also, I never aim just one thing when i can aim two... ( i'm sure it is very easy to Dan or others forums admins, and of course very cheaper - in time-).

Re: Forumers statistics

I'm sure I asked somewhere else, but how big would the bzipped version be of an archive of the downloaded profiles? HP complained that if all of us were to wget the profiles the forum would slow down, but if someone already fetched those, and made the .tbz or .tgz available, I could try to make a perl script to analyze the profiles.

Re: Forumers statistics

Hi Carlos,

This is interesting :-) Good effort!

Frankly, I always wanted to know the % of active forumers in each country. For me, would be interesting to know how many active forumers are there in Singapore, apart for me and Animesh.

Regards.

Re: Forumers statistics

Well, it's the temptation again, I could not resist.

It's still fetching, I've got 587 member profiles so far.

Attached is the perl script that analyzes and summarizes the profiles and a list of the first 587 members I got.

For the country list, it yields for these 587:

149 UK
97 GERMANY
65 NETHERLANDS
30 FRANCE
26 SPAIN
24 USA
18 BELGIUM
16 DENMARK
16 SWEDEN

Re: Forumers statistics

Hi,

Oh, you are getting the _first_ (by sequence) 500+ member pages, not the _top_ (by scores) 500+ member pages. I have mistaken in that case.

Re: Forumers statistics

Hi,

Just to set the record straight, the initial inclusion of the word "piranhas" was introduced by Paul Courry. It looks as though Harry and I may have used it before we first appeared in the Top 25 list.

There's the history lesson for the day....

Cheers

Re: Forumers statistics

As i said, stats are for get many ideas...

1- Yes... it seem this river is plenty of 'piranhas'... 2/3 of points are for 100th firsts forumers.

2- All ( almost all) people form India is working at USA...( Some of that names sounds to me not being from Spain, neither Germany ..).

3- USA time is the MFT ( Main Forum Time)

4- 20000 Points are lots of points, but... it is less than 5% of all...

5- Data from Procura.. It shows better the distribution of forumers along the world. Also it shows that there are to few people from USA that begin with A (expect A. Clay, of course).

And so on...

Procura... Attached file is what you want.

Re: Forumers statistics

Hi all,

I think that the information is not political correct or not. It depends the use of that.

It's interesting to know how is distributed the people and the use of the forum that the people do.

I think that is normal that there are more people asking that answering, perhaps in this case there are a great difference.

Great work Carlos and all,

Best Regards,

Justo.

Re: Forumers statistics

Carlos, I cannot do anything useful with the attached zip. Neither Powerarchiver, not unzip can read.

a5:/data 106 > unzip itrc
Archive: itrc.zip
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
note: itrc.zip may be a plain executable, not an archive
unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of itrc or
itrc.zip, and cannot find itrc.ZIP, period.
a5:/data 107 >

I've attached the latest list for over 3500 profiles, but I am missing some ID's easy to spot in the top ten

How can I get a list of all ID's. Attached text file is OK.
