ftp file busy

hi,
we have an ftp server for customers to send their files...we process the files regularly with a cron job and send them to mainframe...
one of our customers put 10-15 files a day,
but sometimes some of their files cannot be copied to file-pool...when i check, i see that the file is busy, and the process using the file is the ftp session created by the customer...when i kill the process, it can be copied,otherwise the system says "file is in use" or something like that...i first thought that the reason may be the session that had been created by the customer,which could be still alive...but the problem continues, after i speak to customer and tell them to close their connections...
any idea? what may cause the ftp session keep
going?

OK, user sessions still hang around after the User has terminated, right?

In /etc/inetd.conf, set ftpd option of 'ftpd -t 60', for timeout for inactive sessions.

Then 'inetd -c' to re-read configuration.

Atil,

What kind of FTP server do you have? What OS are you running and what release and is it up to date with patches?

Also, what are the clients using to FTP to your server with? Are the clients using some special software or just normal FTP?
