Re: full system bakup HP-UX

If you want a bootable backup then you need to install Ignite_UX and run the make_tape_recovery command. Normally this will restore your vg00 complete with all your patches, kernel tunings, and software installed in vg00. At this point, a conventional restore using fbackup, cpio, pax, tar ... media is used to restore the remainder of your system.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: full system bakup HP-UX

Shalom,

You probably don't want to back up the whole system with Ignite.

Ignite is really good at making bootable tapes.

Its really BAD at backing up critical data like oracle databases. It can't do that unless the database is down.

So a FULL backup strategy usually involes backing up vg00 to tape as bootable and some other tool to back up critical data.

I would suggest please be careful because database backups are bit trecky.SO
Installed DP and take the backup.

Or use fbackup to take the backup but if your file size beyond 4 Gb then forget about fbackup

Re: full system bakup HP-UX

Use #man make_tape_recovery to get the option details.

Examples:

# making an ignite image for O/S file systems.
HOSTNAME=`/usr/bin/uname -n`
DATE=`date`
#nohup /opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -v -x inc_entire=vg00 -I -P s -a /dev/rmt/0mn -d "$HOSTNAME Image of $DATE" > /home/abc/make_rec/ignite.out 2>&1 &
or
#nohup /opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -v -A -C -i -t "Ignite Image of itp0zh94-020405" -d /dev/rmt/0mn > /home/abc/make_rec/ignite.out 2>&1 &

Commad to rewind the tape:
# mt -t /dev/rmt/0mn rew # to rewind the tape
Command to eject the tape
# mt offl
