Space usage: du -ks and bdf do not show same info.

Hello,

Can somebody tell me why du -ks shows 12G used space and bdf shows 24G used:

root:/>du -ks /u01
12752866 /u01
root:/>bdf /u01
Filesystem kbytes used avail %used Mounted on
/dev/vg01/u01 25624576 24127510 1403609 95% /u01

Hello Olga,

Please check with google on the many many prior discussions, even here in this forum:

Google: du bdf used +site:itrc.hp.com

Typically the factors involded are large files already deleted but still in use, and SPARSE files. /tmp files in general and Oracle TEMPORARY database file specifically being involved.

This is a post from another thread.

Usually I have seen decrepancies from output of du and bdf and the reason is some open file due to a process which was killed/terminated without releasing/closing the file.
You can check from lsof for open files in /u01.
