General Service Guard questions
Do all nodes in the cluster need to be running the identical version of service guard?
I have one node running 11.09, and I need to reinstall service guard on the fail over node. Do I need to dig up 11.09, or can I install the version of the latest app cd's?
Also with the service guard configuration can you have different timeout values for different interfaces?
For instance I'd like service guard to failover the primary nic quickly (say 10 seconds), but not failover the heartbeat nics as quickly.
TIA,
Sean

Re: General Service Guard questions
When you upgrade from HP-UX 10.* to 11.*, one official way to do it is to upgrade one node, fail over the package, then upgrade the other node, so not only are you running a different version of SG, but a different version of the OS as well.

Re: General Service Guard questions
You need to have the same version of ServiceGuard on all the nodes in the cluster.
The reason is the lower version of service guard may not be able to understand the parameters that of the newer versions.
So, I strongly recommend you to synchronize the serviceguard versions to avoid headaches.

Re: General Service Guard questions
The only time a SG cluster may be running different versions on different nodes is the short amount of time while performing a rolling upgrade. You don't need to "dig up", just install the version you want/need (codeword required).
There is only one central for the network, NETWORK_POLLING_INTERVAL, and another for the heartbeat HEARTBEAT_INTERVAL, which is watched by the cluster. The NETWORK_POLLING_INTERVAL is set to 2 secs., which is faster than you proposed.
Hope this helps

Re: General Service Guard questions
In the config file, does the order of the interfaces for each node have any meaning?

Re: General Service Guard questions
No, it is the result of the cmquerycl command going sequentially through the servers to create the cluster.ascii file.
Hope this helps

Re: General Service Guard questions
The MC/SG version on all nodes MUST be the same. Otherwise, you will not be able to apply your configuration.

Re: General Service Guard questions

A:
Yes, UNLESS you are doing a Rolling Upgrade

A: If you are reinstalling, you MUST install the same version of SG
Q:
Also with the service guard configuration can you have different timeout values for different interfaces?
A:
No, the values apply to all interfaces configured in hte cluster binary
