get control of the console

Hi
this is a superdome. has vmhost. in it we have vmguest. Need to recover the root password of the vmguest. from vmhost, i reset the vmguest by RS or hpvmstop.
I see the system booting up. but when i try to interrup the boot process..

Ctrl E cf to get the console


When I do that


[Already attached to OS_Console.]

Please help me by telling me how to interrupt the boot process here....

p.s. i have normal user privileged login into this vmguest

when the system boots to interrupt..when i press 'enter' it shows

[Read only - use Ctrl-Ecf for console write access.]

when I do this

Be careful when using the console, you can easily switch the guests, but also to the real hardware console.


However, get the guests console (hpvmconsole) and start the guest in single user mode from there.

As said, be careful with the console!!!

Press

CTRL and e

release CTRL

press c

press f

to get write access.

Use

CTRL x to leave the vMP!


Once you see the guest booting, stop before the kernel loads and boot into single user mode.

hi..i successfully managed to get the access to the console .... i jumped intot he HPUX prompt. I executed boot -is
I got the # prompt.
looks like the system is trusted.

I can see this in /tcb/files/auth/r but cannot edit using vi.

i mounted /usr.

i did mountall

somehow vi worked. and i was able to edit that file root. password reset done successfully.
