Re: Get Together in London

FWIW I'd be quite happy to set up and maintain a photo gallery on my ITRC pages.

If there is enough animo, I'll start doing so soon, and start with the Volker card pics.

If there is not enough animo, or enough people have good reason to object, just forget it

have a nice gettogether, it's just a little bit to far away (and thus too expensive) for me to attend.

Enjoy, have FUN! H.Merijn [ and I mean that ]

Re: Get Together in London

Any Friday is good 4 me

Some ideas...

Food:
Lebanese is a bit special [French/Arab fusion]
Indian - that place you hang out at maybe?

Booze:
A pub with real ale
Do you know one with live small-scale music?
I was thinking blues or jazz

Entertainment:
Magic Circle a la Paula?
Caberet & disco are good,
but you can't talk

Intellect:
Sir John Soane Museum
[Near the Inns of Court]
This is a wild place
If only al museums were like this...
Well worth a visit on a Saturday morning
<4 those who survive the Friday evening>

Regards
Mike

Re: Get Together in London

Princess - I'd love to go - It sounds like a blast - But unfortunately I don't think my boss will sign off on my expense report If I put a trans-atlantic ticket on the bill. You'll have to take pictures and post them to the web for everyone who can't make it.

Re: Get Together in London

Charming Idea Paula,

Merijn, you might check out
http://www.billigflug.de (unfortunately in German), but you can do Amsterdam-London-Amsterdam for -lt 110??? with BA.

It will be more a problem in terms of time for me I guess.

BTW for those interested in pictures, the card is still there (I just checked), might take a while to download (sharply 1MB):
https://www.beepz.com/personal/merijn/Volker_GreetingCard_1.jpg.

And for those not able to fly, or travel otherwise, I noticed that the chat-room has a new design....

Have great time

Re: Get Together in London

Princess,

If there were any way at all I could pull this off, I would be there in the blink of an eye. Unfortunately, my liquid funds have dried up (long ago, I???m afraid) and it just won???t be possible unless I grow feathers and learn to fly between now and then ;-(

I wish you all a great time and look forward to the photos.

Somebody drink one (or two, or three, or???) for me and let me know how much I enjoyed it!

Re: Get Together in London

Sounds wonderful, Princess!

As a commoner, I'm stuck with the old 9-to-5 here in the states, but thanks just the same.

I'm looking forward to enjoying this soiree vicariously through some sort of photo documentation.

Please raise a glass to us "little guys"... and enjoy!

Best Regards,

Dave

Re: Get Together in London

I think Princess Paula is on to something here though. Even though many of us cannot attend it would be nice to have several locations throughout the world where we could arrange to meet others from this forum. I live near Philladelphia and I'm sure there are others in this area. I know that we seem fairly scattered throught the world but I think it would still be great to get together and meet each other. Possibly at a HP conference afterwards or something (that way our bosses can pay for it :)

John,

Go to HPWorld in Atlanta. You'll get to meet plenty of Forumers, even the one and only Dan should be there.

Re: Get Together in London

Paula, - I get the general idea of "best bib and tucker" but ... for us non-European's could you define bib and tucker?

Re: Get Together in London

Hi

"Best Bib and Tucker"

A tucker was a bit of lace worn around the neck and top of the bodice by 17th-18th century women, presumably something that was tucked in; the bib was closely related to our modern term???a shirt-front or covering for the breast. The expression is first recorded from the middle of the eighteenth century, initially only for women and girls, as you might expect, but later on also to men, when the words had become a fixed phrase and disengaged from their real meanings. Before then, the common expression seems to have been best bib and band (band meaning collar), also commonly used for men as well as women, which continued after the new term had come into use, though it seems to have died out at the end of the eighteenth century. The word derives from the same source as the tucker of food, but is unconnected in meaning.
