FTP is this is a one-shot or only occasional deal. Samba is a better long-term solution. Samba allows a UNIX to "share" files with a Windows box in either direction.

If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Samba / CIFS 9000 will first have to be installed and configured.

Man ftp. That will tell you all you need to know.

From the command window on the windows system
ftp < unix hostname>
ftp

login as valid user

get file name

or change to the directory containing the file
get file name

man ftp for more info

Re: getting a file from a unix or a linux machine to a windows machine

On UNIX, you only have one choice - CIFS Client (HP-UX) which is actually a product from Sharity, Inc. (other UNICEs available too)... Note CIFS Client is NOT "Samba"...

On Linux, both CIFS Client (the Sharity Flavour) as well as "Samba Client - SMB Client or SMBFS" is available..

Take a look at WinSCP, easy to install and use...imho very user-friendly.
