I have read other posts about the gig cards and the settings to use but none are working.
I have set both sides of the pie to auto negotiate.
The card is a :
lan 0 1/0/10/1/0/4/0 igelan CLAIMED INTERFACE HP A6794-60001 PC
The switch is a cisco 3750 48 port 10/100/1000.
the card will only neg at 100FD. I have tried changing cabling etc. had just the cat5 cable directly to the switch ie. no patching involved. i have set the switch ports to 1000FD but then it doesn;t connect at all.
Any ideas? if iknew there this many issues with the copper gig cards id have stayed with the older fibre cards.
Paul

Re: Gig ethernet card auto neg

Re: Gig ethernet card auto neg
Speed = 100000000
The link is down. The speed and other link state information
are undefined. The configuration specified for this card is:
Speed = 1000 or 100 or 10 Mbps.
Autonegotiation = On.
the /hpigelanconf file show SPEED=auto_neg
the AUTONEG value is blank ie default of [0] i thought.
If i set the parameters in that file to 1000FD and turn off auto neg i will need to do it on the switch as well?
Thanks! Paul

Re: Gig ethernet card auto neg
You need to set auto_on.
SPEED[0]=
AUTO_ON[0]=1

Re: Gig ethernet card auto neg
HP_IGELAN_INTERFACE_NAME[0]=lan0
HP_IGELAN_STATION_ADDRESS[0]=
HP_IGELAN_SPEED[0]=
HP_IGELAN_MTU[0]=1500
HP_IGELAN_FLOW_CONTROL[0]=1
HP_IGELAN_AUTONEG[0]=1
HP_IGELAN_SEND_COAL_TICKS[0]=150
HP_IGELAN_RECV_COAL_TICKS[0]=0
HP_IGELAN_SEND_MAX_BUFS[0]=10
HP_IGELAN_RECV_MAX_BUFS[0]=1
As above ? i will try that now..
so the AUTO_NEG field is for all parameters? not just speed as in SPEED=auto_on is only the speed ? am i right in that thinking?

Solutionhttp://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps5023/prod_command_reference_list.html
The latest version says the syntax to set speed on a port is
speed {10 | 100 | 1000 | auto [10 | 100 | 1000] | nonegotiate}
Try "speed auto 1000" or "speed 1000" on the switch port. Your current 'auto' setting is perhaps defaulting to 100. Ensure that you are using a Cat5e or better cable. You don't need to change anything on the HP-UX system -- just set it to auto-negotiate (default).
HTH,
Jay
