Gigabit adapter driver for K Class server

Hello.

I recently purchased a 1000Base-SX HP HSC gigabit ethernet LAN adapter. The part number is A4924A. It will be installed in an HP 9000 K580 server. The OS is HP 11.0. What drivers and software patches need to be installed with this adapter?

Hi Valisha,

The driver is there in your Application CD1 with the name A4924A. Install it and you should see this device in both "ioscan -fnC lan" and "lanscan". Then you can configure with network. Look at /etc/rc.config.d/hpgelanconf for speed settings.

A couple things:

Do not expect blazing performance out of Gigabit Ethernet in a K Class - even a K580. Yes, it will be faster than 100BT, but no, it will _NOT_ get link-rate. IIRC it may not even get close.

As SX implies fibre, not copper, there is only one speed setting for the NIC 1000 megabits. Also, since virtually nothing out there does half-duplex gigabit ethernet, there is only full-duplex. So, there should be no need to be editing any config files for speed/duplex settings.
