Gigabit card problem

Hi ,

Gigabit card installed on HP L3000 server ( HP-UX 11.00 ) is giving intermittent problem.
Sometimes it gets initialized properly during the reboot and sometimes it fails to initialize.

In the system log, it gives the following error :-
==================================
gelan1: Cmd Cons after reset: 0.
==================================
Server has the H/W enablement patches of Sept' 2002.
Any suggestions for the patches.

Thanks

Re: Gigabit card problem

Venky,

Do you have patch PHNE_24307 or a later revision installed? From the patch fix text on that patch:

2. JAGad47886: Message " Cmd Cons after reset: 0" logged
inadvertently in the syslog.log and dmesg.

PHNE_25612 appears to be the latest version of that patch.

Hope this helps!

Re: Gigabit card problem

After checking the server side, check also the OS version of the other side (the network switch side).
I've seen enough bug fix reports similar to your case to know that earlier versions of Gigabit software (on switches) are not exactly reliable.
Also, make sure your flow control settings match what is configured on the switch port. For most mismatches, the port simply would never work, so that is probably not your case. But if your settings are default, you'll probably see some options set to "Desired", which is kind of an "auto-detect" feature that may (?) not be working at all (boot) times.
