gnome in rp 7420

I have installed gnome 1.4 for hp-ux in my server rp7420 and i have run all files and its ok but i cannot login to the gnome via the reflection x however i can login to the cde and i have do this steps:
1./sbin/init.d/dtlogin.rc stop
2.edit the following file:
/etc/rc.config.d/desktop
and change the line:
DESKTOP=CDE
to
DESKTOP=GNOME
3./sbin/init.d/gdm.rc start
but i cannot login to gnome
is there any body can help me

Shalom,

Just a note, I used gnome 1.4 for several years in the US. gnome is up to version 2.8 now and the capabilities of this software is extremely limited.

It is more flexible than the CDE environment but if all you need the GUI for is installing Oracle, its a lot of unnecessary software.

I think the issue in this case is probably permissions on the configuration files .gnome etc in the user home directory.
