Gnome on Rp2430

I am new to HP-UX but have worked with Linux in the past. We have a new development box which is a HP-UX RP2430 with a 650Mhz PA-RISC Pocessor and 384M RAM running 11i. I was thinking of installing Ximian Gnome on this machine and connecting remotely through a PC using XCeed 6.2. Some of the documentation mentions installing on a "workstation" but I am unsure if this will work on this box. There is not a VGA adapter on the machine, although we do currently have CDE running well. The primary responsibility of the machine is for development and testing of Tuxedo/Jolt applications running on WebLogic. If any one has had any experience with this I would greatly appreciate any information as to the pitfalls or problems with this set up.

Thanks

Re: Gnome on Rp2430

I had read this page, but was still not 100% sure that it would work with my particular machine( being a rack mount and not a workstation ). The last thing I really want to do is to have the machine reloaded because of some issues when installing a window manager.

Thanks for the reply.

Re: Gnome on Rp2430

GNOME should work on this box but you should be aware that gdm (the login manager) does not enable XDMCP by default. For your PC user's to get a full session, you will need to edit the file /etc/opt/gnome/gdm/gdm.conf and change the value:

[xdmcp]
Enable=false

The other main point that you should understand is that GNOME for HP-UX is offered without any support. It is a free product. This version will probably be the last update.

Re: Rick's comments -- be sure to change the xdmcp option in /etc/opt/gnome/gdm/gdm.conf to "true":

[xdmcp]
Enable=true

It works like a charm for me off an old D-class box with no onboard graphics.
