after upgrade you find problem with applications, we recommend you to do cold install rather than upgrade

Re: Guide need to upgrade hp-ux 11.0 to 11i
Its smoother, less pitfalls.
You'll need to make sure all your applications can handle the OS with the vendor. Oracle has some unusual problems going from 32 bit to 64 bit on HP-UX, I've attached a doc on that one.
Upgrade is an improving process, but it is not as reliable as cold install.
We commonly purchase new hardware, take our time with patches and install, test heavily then migrate data and cut over in a controlled fashion.

Re: Guide need to upgrade hp-ux 11.0 to 11i
Make an Ignite tape, remove the existing disk & keep as a fallback position. Install a replacement disk - build by ignite & then upgrade to 11i. This works well as a method & is secure in case anything goes wrong.
