Hi,

http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/5187-1827/5187-1827.html

after upgrade you find problem with applications, we recommend you to do cold install rather than upgrade
never give up

Re: Guide need to upgrade hp-ux 11.0 to 11i

The best guide I can give you is cold install.

Its smoother, less pitfalls.

You'll need to make sure all your applications can handle the OS with the vendor. Oracle has some unusual problems going from 32 bit to 64 bit on HP-UX, I've attached a doc on that one.

Upgrade is an improving process, but it is not as reliable as cold install.

We commonly purchase new hardware, take our time with patches and install, test heavily then migrate data and cut over in a controlled fashion.

Re: Guide need to upgrade hp-ux 11.0 to 11i

As far as compatibility with 32 and 64 bit programs, there are no issues between 11.0 and 11i. They have been handled transparently since the first day 64bit 11.0 was released back in Nov 1997. So reasonably well written applications should not be affected at all. Possibly, some executables may need to relinked in case they use some esoteric libraries.

One way I like to do this is to use an alternative disk.
Make an Ignite tape, remove the existing disk & keep as a fallback position. Install a replacement disk - build by ignite & then upgrade to 11i. This works well as a method & is secure in case anything goes wrong.
