Has anyone tried backing up unix servers with backupexec

Hi all,

Does anyone out there backup both unix and windows servers with backupexec. I'm looking to save money since our unix environment is going away and being replaced by w2k. Thought I could use backupexec that we backup w2k servers with, is this feasible , has anyone done and is it easy to set up. We currently use omniback on the unix servers.
Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

Backup exec is not for unix servers.

Hope this helps.

What you can do with backupexec:

You can use NFS or CIFS/9000 and open up part of yours system. Then by connecting it as a mapped network drive from a windows system you can back up part of your system, perhaps data.

You can't back up a hot database like this because you have no automatic means of changing the database state. What you can do is have cron shut down the database during the backup window.

You can not replace ignite for boot/vg00 backup. To have a complete Disaster recovery solution, you'll still need to use make_tape_recovery to back up your configuration.
