Re: Has performance improved in the Forums?

Maybe it's not really the subject of this thread, but I still get errors. From Iexplorer I get errors like this :

Re: Has performance improved in the Forums?

Defnitely Better, Much Faster!!!!
But sometimes it still goes into a warp, maybe those pages are on different servers and its the network too you need to work on? :)

Re: Has performance improved in the Forums?

Shayne,

I just got 4 '404 Object not Found' errors in a row:

- 1 accessing the forum homepage
- 1 after pressing the submit button in a reply
- 2 trying to go to the 'Reply' page to create this reply.

I also had a few of them this morning.

Bye,
Rik.

Re: Has performance improved in the Forums?

Hi Shayne,

A couple of '404: Not found' this morning.
Hitting the 'submit button' when trying to reply to a post. Simply refreshing the page solved it.

Best regards,

Dan

Re: Has performance improved in the Forums?

Shayne,
Today I replied to the forum and then tried to see the profile of James R Fergusson. That came up fine. After that at the left hand top corner I saw "forum>profile"
I clicked on forum. Ther I got the "404" error.
To come back to forums I had to use the "back" facility
of the browser.
Hope this adds something to this nice and informative site..

Re: Has performance improved in the Forums?

Hello Shayne:

I've seen a few SSI, a few "not authorized to view this page", and proportionally more '404' errors for about 7-days from both at work and at home. I can't ascribe the occurances to any particular time or apparent forum load. The errors seem to occur most often when clicking on a post listed on the family home page. I have also experienced the '404' error when attempting to open a thread listed in a search.

As I noted, these anomolies are new, or certainly more prevalent during the last 7-days, but infinitely more infrequent than prior the January 18th [see my post of that date, above].

Regards, Jim.

Re: Has performance improved in the Forums?

Shayne, I have had a new problem happening when I respond to the email I receive about responses to my postings.

When I click on the link I am brought to the posting, but I then need to login.

After clicking on the login the following page displays:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswerContent/1,1154,!0x295e37f45ef7d4118fef0090279cd0f9!0!0!0!0!0,00.html

It is an oversize page o fthe posting without the ITRC data that is not on the left-hand side. I can read the posting, but I need to click on one of the "forums>" selections at the top to get the normal screen back.

I could see this as bneing one of the problems in people assigning points. Thanks...

Hi Berlene,

I've got about a dozen SSI errors, trying to access the forum home page or the hpux forum page. (Between 3:00 and 3:05 PM GMT )

Re: Has performance improved in the Forums?

Hello,

I have not found this forum to be any quicker yet I am afraid.

I do find that the forum is more "reliable" and quicker when I use Netscape rather than Internet Explorer.

Re: Has performance improved in the Forums?

Hi Richard,

The problem you mention is a bug. Please use this workaround until we have fixed the problem-

If you login from the Forums home page (forums.itrc.hp.com), the page will display correctly (with header and left navigation bar) and you will be able to assign points to questions.

If you login from a family page (i.e. HP-UX), you will not see the assign button and the page will not display correctly.

Thanks for your patience!

Kind regards,
Shayne

Re: Has performance improved in the Forums?

This thread seemed somewhat appropriate to attach my complaint to, although I doubt it will be taken notice of after some 93 postings.
Webdevelopers please reduce the amount of JavaScript you are imposing on your clients.
And please at least do a syntax check of your JS code before putting it on your webserver.
When I am served the login form of ITRC I am greeted by an alert window of my browser for non-valid JS code.
Having saved the form to file and gone through the HTML I found this syntax error, in line # 808 it reads:

end hide from old browser -->

Obvoiusly this is ment to be the closing of an HTML comment that contains JS not to be interpreted by "old browsers".
I guess your webdevelopers forgot the leading JS comment sign (i.e. '//').

Right after login on the second document your webserver sends my browser's alert pops up again with another JS syntax error, which simply seems to be a forgotten closing single quote in a JS function call.

These being only mere syntax flaws I hope your webserver never ever trusts the results of the JS prechecked clients' responses (i.e. user input)

Hi,

Those SSI errors still exist(many times), specially when I tried to go to homepage of the forum side after a reply on a question.

Re: Has performance improved in the Forums?

Hi all,

I just posted a new message into the hp-ux/general forums for you to list issues you experienced using the forums.
As Shayne doesn't monitor this question anymore, I will keep an eye on the other replies and will take your comments into account.

Again, thanks a lot to all of you who already contributed to build better forums!

Re: Has performance improved in the Forums?

Hi,

The forum speed seems to be ok, but I encounter sometimes a "object not found" error. I cannot reproduce it because it goes off randomly.
