Re: Headache with K box
Headache with K box. Need to add a fiber adapter. Should be A3404A, which is now obsolete. Looks like A6685A is replacement for this...but....it says only put one in...and I wanted to install two. See this thread:
http://www.hp.com/cposupport/information_storage/support_doc/lpg75121.html
Anybody run into this...do you think I could get away with installing 2 - A6685A ????
Thanks,
Rita

Re: Headache with K box
Please note: Order
Product A6685A
(HSC Tachlite) in
place of the
A3404A if using
HP-UX 11.0 for
compatibility and
details). The
A3404A requires
associated license
(J3630BA), media
(J1602BA), and
the Support Plus
media (B6191AA),
and HP-UX
10.20. If
additional
adapters are
needed after the
first, only order the
adapter (A3404A)
which seems to say use the A6685A instead of the A3404A, unless you need more than one - then order the A3404A. I'm sure they just forgot to change the second reference to A3404A.
It sounds to me like you can have more than one.

Re: Headache with K box
You don't mention which K-box but I dealt with something similar yesterday but if this is a K-570 or 580 then the maximum number of supported Fibre cards varies with the graphics hardware. Also note that your Fibre Card must not be installed in the Core-IO board.
See these Firmware Release Notes:

Re: Headache with K box
HP-HSC cards Maximum of 1
HP-PB cards Maximum of 4
[two of which may be double-high]
But # 1:
The K460 & K5x0 can have the number of HP-HSC slots increased. You can add 2 or 4 slots. [& a further 4 on top of that I understand]
But # 2:
Also there is a card cage option - could be the answer...
What K have you got?
Regards
Mike

Re: Headache with K box
Was going to order the A6685A, when I noticed that 'strange' reference to "more than one" that Pete noticed too. That's what made me stop and figure I'd ask the experts if they agree. I feel it shouldn't be a problem....add 2 A6685A adapters to the current HSC and throw on that l'il disk array for now.
What d'ya think?

Re: Headache with K box
Admittedly it's a guess, but I think you're OK. That phrase we were questioning must have lost something in the translation from the original Sanskrit.
