HELP!! HP9000 K580 won't boot
I am troubleshooting a HP9000 K580 server, which gives the following problem:
During the boot cycle the system seems to come into a loop.
Everything looks normal:
Boot
: disc(10/0.6.0;0)/stand/vmunix
6619284 + 479232 + 3878880 start 0x1c1268
Until this moment. From here the following message appears in my terminal:
FLT CBFB
Hereafter the boot sequence starts again.
This is what i did so far:
1:Checked if there are more bootable devices.
Primary boot path: fwscsi.6 (mnemonic)
10/0.6 (dec)
0a/0.6 (hex)
Alternate boot path: sescsi.2 (mnemonic)
10/12/5.2 (dec)
0a/0c/05.2 (hex)
Console path: 10/4/0.0 (dec)
0a/04/0.0 (hex)
Keyboard path: 10/12/7.0 (dec)
0a/0c/07.0 (hex)
RESULT:Only one bootable disk found :(
2:I tried to start in single mode
hpux boot -is vmunix
RESULT:Same behaviour
3:Looked for another kernel, and found a vmunix.prev in the stand dir. (ISL>hpux ls)
When i am trying to boot ISL>hpux vmunix.prev
Result:Same behaviour.
My conclusion so far is that the kernels are being found, but somehow the system refuses to boot.
Therefore i have the following question:
Q1Does anyone knows what to do next?
Q2Maybe the FLT CBFB, contains the solution, but unfortunately i do not find a clear description what the error means (apart from "Branching to the OS HPMC handler)?
The HPUX version isX11.00.U HP-UX()
Any suggestions?
Any help on this is highly appreciated!!
Many thanks in advance,
Hans

Re: HELP!! HP9000 K580 won't boot
Branching to the OS HPMC handler means there was a HPMC and this is handled now.
Press CTRL B (key switch must be in service position) and review the chassis codes for more failure codes.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: HELP!! HP9000 K580 won't boot
We found out that it was a missing SCSI terminator. (The server was moved, and a tapeunit was disconnected).
Many thanks for the reply's

Re: HELP!! HP9000 K580 won't boot
Hi Hans,
It looks like your system has some hardware issue, FLT CBFB indicates that a HPMC has occured. This would have created PIM dump, can you collect this from BCH menu & upload may be i will be able to analyse it..
At BCH prompt type
Main Menu: Enter command or menu > Service
>PIM
Dump the pim into a text file and upload here..
Also try to find the bootable disks with command.
Main Menu: Enter command or menu >sea ipl
This will give u the list of devices where u can boot from, try booting from anyone of them.
PIM analysis should clarify what exactly is the issue with ur box.
Best Regards,
Prashanth
