HFS Deprecated - What about /stand ?
It has been my understanding that /stand had to be the first partition on the disk and had to be a HFS file system because that's what the kernel could understand.
Can/Should I now use VxFS for the /stand file system?
It appears that HP is now including more of the Solaris-type Veritas Volume Manager. Is this going to replace LVM eventually? Does SAM support the Veritas Volume Manager?
Thanks,
Tom

Q: Can/Should I now use VxFS for the /stand file system?
A: Yes, you *have* to use vxfs for /stand on 11.23
Q: It appears that HP is now including more of the Solaris-type Veritas Volume Manager. Is this going to replace LVM eventually? Does SAM support the Veritas Volume Manager?
A: No VxVm will not replace LVM - it is simply an alternative. You can't manage VxVM through SAM, but VxVM has its own management GUI (I think called VEA - Veritas Enterprise Adminsitrator which can be run either on the server, or you can download a windows client and run it from your PC)

Re: HFS Deprecated - What about /stand ?
I'd suggest making a practice run first. I don't think the manual installation scripts default to VxFS for stand, so you need to go into the file system setup and change it.
If you're not that adventurous, then just go with the default, which I think is still HFS.

Re: HFS Deprecated - What about /stand ?
Re Veritas, the current 11iv1 and v2 include "Base VERITAS Volume Manager 3.5 for HP-UX" as part of the OS, and used in the LVM. You can see the packages that are included by running "swlist -l product | grep -i VRTS" at the command line. There are rumors that more of the product will be included in the next version of 11i. Not sure how much of that is true.

Re: HFS Deprecated - What about /stand ?
Thanks for the replies. I'll hold off on points to keep the Bunny off the thread.
I'm currently running the install. I'll probably do 2 or 3 ( 7 or 8 ? ) to test what happens. I noticed that if I choose "VxFS" for /stand, the install program automatically changed the device from vg00 to rootdg for all the file systems. "Rootdg" is from Veritas Volume Manager.
When this install completes, I'll probably turn around and do it again with different options.
Thanks,
Tom

Re: HFS Deprecated - What about /stand ?
ERROR: The boot volume ("/stand") must be an HFS file
system. Please switch to the HFS usage for the boot volume.
So I'm going through it again with /stand set to be HFS. So far, the install process seems to like that.
Thanks for your help folks!
