HO ML350 G5 Serer issue with jboss

We provide a phone data backup application. It backs up the mobile data onto a remote server through operators GPRS connectivity.

Our app runs on ( Red hat Entr. 4.0 ) Jboss (3.2.3) Application Server. We run this on (Red hat) RHEL 4 OS. We have many successful deployments of this configuration, but all of them are on 32 bit hardware (Dell & Sun so far).

But for a new deployment we procured HP hardware which is 64 bit, the same configuration is setup on new 64 bit hardware.
Hardware details as below:-
HP-ML350G5
3.6 GHZ Xeon
RAM 4 G.B
SAS 146G.b X 6

Now we face a number of issues such as out-of-memory, out-of-stack, too-many-threads, too-much-load etc, though there is hardly any load on the server. After a drill down from top to bottom on where the problem could be, and trying out different options including tuning of code, app server and OS, we find that the load tests that run smoothly on our 32 bit hardware for all of the 6 hours of stress, doesnâ t last for even 10 minutes on the 64 bit HP hardware. While we are positive that there is no flaw with the hardware, we would like to understand what tuning, configurations and/or changes are required at our end, for us to use this hardware to its potential. A further note, we have installed RHEL 4 on 32 bit mode on this server.

Re: HO ML350 G5 Serer issue with jboss

Shalom,

uname -a

Please post the output. I'd like to see what kernel you are running.

HP 64 bit Itanium hardware will ONLY run 64 bi OS. It has compatability with 32 bit applications but they need to be written according to accepted standards. So I can't see why this is posted here or if the statement that you have installed a 32 bit Os is correct.

The issue at hand is not the hardware, its either the application or the compilation method.
So its Intel hardware as you indicated and you do have a 32 bit OS installed.

Therefore look at the application code. Some changes are probably necessary for Red Hat Linux.
