Hooking up a PS/2 101-key keyboard and 3-button mouse to a 715/100

I need to hookup a regular PS/2 PC 101-key keyboard and 3-button PS/2 mouse to the 715/100. Is this possible, if so, are there any adapters/cables that I need? Are there any configuration changes to the OS/CDE that I need to make?

Hello tim,

the 715/100 I have access to, do have an adaptor box
where you plug in either HIL keyboard and mouse, OR
PS2 keyboard and mouse - but NOT a mix thereof.

Before doing that, I would do an "attended boot" and
set the "keyboard path" accordingly. Then turn off the
power, exchange keyboard and mouse (HPs do like you
doing that on-line) and boot.

Now everything should be fine.

When you say "adapter box", what is the make and model of the box? Also, when you refer to an "attended boot" what do you mean? Hitting the ESC key and getting into the PROM? Can I do that with the PS/2 keyboard or do I have to have an HIL keyboard in order to make the change first and then reboot to the PS/2 keyboard?

What you need is a keyboard adapter module. This device plugs into the RJ45 socket on the back of the system box with a fly lead. The adapter box accepts a ps2 key board and a mouse. These devices are some what rare though as they were supplied with the system box.

Thanks for the exact info on the module. My unit does not have any keyboard currently. Would I need to hook up an HIL keyboard initially in order to make the configuration change to the PS/2 style in the firmware, shutdown, and then physically make the keyboard switch?

No the key board and mouse plug into the adapter and the system sees them for what they are a key board and a mouse. When you load the OS you can specify what keyboard layout you wish to use.
