I've read loads of info on these forums and they have always help in the past but I now have a Q that I need help with.
We have a machine that has 11.31 with update 4 installed. This started at 11.31. We can see from our paper work that we have a license for HP OnlineJFS the license is for a disc number that is for 11.23 (we have found the disc). however it wont install. I would assume that this would still mean we could install it while running a newer version. The problem is that I am NO HPUX guru and so need help to establish what the problem is.
When I install teh codeword and open the depot it does not show the SW. when I enable the option "allow installation of incompatible software" it does show up. Base-VXFS 4.1.002.
When I mark it for install it says
Could not apply the software selection, "VRTSvxfs........" because a different variant of this same product has already been selected.
Can anyone help me understand what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

Re: how can i check if OnlineJFS 4.1 vxfs is installed
"ERROR: Software "OnlineJFS" was not found on host"
and
Symantec License Manager vxlicrep utility version 3.02.19.0
Copyright (C) 1996-2006 Symantec Corporation. All rights reserved.
Creating a report on all VERITAS products installed on this system
vxlicrep ERROR V-21-3-1003 There are no valid VERITAS License keys installed in the system.
That's great that shows that it really isn't installed. The next part is should I be able to install it from an 11.23 DVD to an 11.31 install?

SolutionIf this license is for the same 11.31 server you need to get an updated 11.31 disc and a new codeword.
Doublecheck again if OnlineJFS is installe with
swlist -l fileset | grep -i -e JFS -e VXFS
or
swlist -l fileset |more
The 11.31 OS has the Base VxFS installed so the OnlineJFS from 11.23 can not be installed.
In general you should not be installing software from different HP-UX versions, more so when you are dealing with kernel filesets like OnlineJFS

Re: how can i check if OnlineJFS 4.1 vxfs is installed
What OE version of 11iv3 you have installed.
If you have 11iv3 MCOE or DCOE , then OnlineJFS should be there with license, and vxlicrep should show the license details ,
what is the output of :
# swlist -l bundle | grep hpux11 | grep OE
Cheers,
Raj.

Re: how can i check if OnlineJFS 4.1 vxfs is installed
If you have other Operating Environment you have to buy Online JFS , might be
HP-UX OnlineJFS 5.0 11i v3
but it seems hard job ,because I couldn 't see this media in HP sites..

Re: how can i check if OnlineJFS 4.1 vxfs is installed
turgay cavdar- I think you are probably right. It makes sense that I can't, I was looking for confirmation and seem to have received it :(
TTr, This license seems to be just for 11.23 and I can't see it for 11.31 or certainly can't find the paper evidence showing it :(
the command responds with.
# swlist -l fileset | grep -i -e JFS -e VXFS
# JFS B.11.31 Base VxFS File System 4.1 for HP-UX
JFS.VXFS-BASE-KRN B.11.31 The Base VxFS File System Kernel files
JFS.VXFS-BASE-RUN B.11.31 Utilities for JFS management
JFS.VXFS-ENG-A-MAN B.11.31 VXFS Manual Pages for HP-UX
JFS.VXFS-JPN-E-MAN B.11.31 VXFS Manual Pages for HP-UX
JFS.VXFS-JPN-S-MAN B.11.31 VXFS Manual Pages for HP-UX
# PHCO_37394 1.0 VxFS mkfs(1M) cumulative patch
PHCO_37394.VXFS-BASE-RUN 1.0 JFS.VXFS-BASE-RUN
PHCO_37807.VXFS-BASE-RUN 1.0 JFS.VXFS-BASE-RUN
# PHKL_36797 1.0 VxFS4.1 kernel module patch
PHKL_36797.VXFS-BASE-KRN 1.0 JFS.VXFS-BASE-KRN
What you say about installing from different HP-UX versions makes complete sense and so I think This is a dead end for me until we upgrade the license.
Raj D.
the output shows
HPUX11i-OE B.11.31.0709 HP-UX Foundation Operating Environment
looks like we don't have the versions you mentioned :(
Hakki Aydin
as we seem to just have the base installed.
Thanks for all the responses above. From this it would seem to make sense that I can't take the 11.23 media and codeword and install it into 11.31. I don't have the right version to get it by default so I need to buy an upgrade or find the media and codeword for 11.31.
thanks so much :)
