Re: How difficult is to add a new Hard Disk to Storage Enclosure

Hi Basheer,

If you have a free slot, just plus the drive in and then after a few minutes do a ioscan on the system to check the drive has been identified and then do a "insf -e" to create the device file for the new drive. Hope there is no SCSI Id conflict with any existing drives.

Hope this helps.

Assuming that you have a free slot, simply make sure that the DIP switches are set to an unused SCSI address and plug the drive in. WARNING: The A3312 will accept both SE-SCSI and FWD-SCSI drives. Make sure that you don't mix them on the same bus. The drive model you indicated is FWD and that is most common.

Since it is so easy, I would then use SAM->Disks & Filesystems->Disk Devices->Actions->Diagnose Missing Disk. That will add the device nodes and you can the proceed to create a volume group or extend an existing volume group.

Regards, Clay
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Basheer

The drive you have there is hot pluggable into that desktop array model.

1) Insert the drive. Do not push too hard on the disk, just enough to get it seeded in place otherwise you will possibly damage the connector.

2) Set the thumbwheel for an unused scsi id.

3) Build the device file for the drive.

4) run insf -e to make sure the device file is there.

5) run ioscan -fnC disk and ensure that the new disk is listed and that it's CLAIMED.

This should help you, if not post more info.

Good luck

FG.
