Re: how enable compression in dss/dat drive

In general, look for the device nodes that contain the word "BEST"; e.g. ls -l /dev/rmt/*BEST*. The "Best" device nodes use the highest available density and enable compression, if available. Do a man 7 mt for more details.

It is also possible that compression has been manually disabled by setting a DIP switch. Without knowing your drive models, it's not possible to be more specific.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Thank you for your assistance.

We have achieved compression by using the "BEST" device name.

Your recommendation works except on one box.
We are assuming have to enable the DIP switch of the DAT 72 drive.

Please assist us what DIP swithc have to turn on/off.

Thanks in advance.

Re: how enable compression in dss/dat drive

Hi,
Generally the DIP switch on the drive itself have the details mentioned on themselves. Allthough if you have same drive on other servers also then you can match the DIP switch settings with other working drive.

Hi Adriatico,

I was mentioning drive not media. There is not DIP switch settings on tape cartridge. It is there on tape drive.
