How much memory can I pinch ?

I have a K class server with 3G and would like to identify if I can remove some memory to put on another K server.

We have Metron Athene installed and this reports that over a 2 month period, memory consistently has 700000 free list size (pages).

Is it fair to assume that as a page is 2K, this relates to about 1.3G and therefore I should be able to remove 500MB of RAM (being conservative).

Any input would be appreciated.

Re: How much memory can I pinch ?

vmstat reports the number of free memory pages, and the size is 4K - not 2k! So if vmstat shows;

procs memory
r b w avm free
0 0 0 4535 277988

Then you have 277988*4096=1,138MB free (1.1GB)

You need to check the size of your Memory SIMMS so you can work out which to remove. You will need to remove them in pairs which may restrict what you can take out. Use XSTM from the Online Diagnostics to view the memory information and physical SIMM configuration.
