Re: How to backup and restore VxVM?
Create two good Ignite tapes before you start the upgrade.
Best regards,

Re: How to backup and restore VxVM?
Backup of root vg is the most important. As suggested earlier, take ignite backups ( using "make_recovery -A " ). It is also a good idea to have additional copy of /etc in a easily accesible location ( a different disk location instead of tape) to compare old and new configuration.
Backup other VxVM volumes using Fbackup - just to be on safer side. But you'll not need to restore them.
Deport the VxVM DGs before the reinstall and After the reinstall just import them back - all you date "should" be back....

Re: How to backup and restore VxVM?
The default tool for system backups (vg00) in HP-UX is Ignite. For the other volume groups you can use your ordinary backup tool (I belive you do backups).

Re: How to backup and restore VxVM?
I found that I could not deport rootdg. ( My system is in LVM and data is stored on the Veritas volumne.)
When I do a make_recovery tape, whether the rootdg's information is backuped? And whether it could be restored when I restore system by make_recovery tape?
