how to boot into new server?

Hi,

I'm totally new at this so please be patient - how do I boot into a new rp3440 server? It came with 11i v2, with a VGA monitor and USB keyboard/mouse hooked up.

When I turn it on, I wait a while until something comes up onscreen which appears to be a terminal (?). The options at the bottom of the screen are "Remote Mode" and "Functions something (if I remember right)." I thought the OS was already installed but I can't seem to get beyond this screen. I also tried putting in the DVD and rebooting but end up at the same screen.

Any ideas? I can't seem to find any info in the docs on how to get past this screen. Everything I've read so far starts from a point where you appear to have a boot menu already.

Thanks for your help.

Re: how to boot into new server?

Hi RZemmy,

Please follow these steps to boot the machine.

1. You will have a serial cable with your new server. Please connect it with MP (Management Processor) at the back of your server and with your notebook.

2. After that run Hyperterminal and do default setting.

3. It will ask for user/passwd (Default is "Admin/Admin " )

4. You will see a menu here and then you have to go in "CO" if you OS is booting it will show you prompt.

If you need further help please ask.

Re: how to boot into new server?

The build-in VGA card is not supported with HP-UX at all.

You need to set up a serial console as suggested.

Where is your monitor connected?

Hope this helps!

Re: how to boot into new server?

RZemmy,

have set up 2 rp3440s this week, but had to get reflections on my pc, as I could not get the install menu to work with hyperterminal.

Apart from that, Asif's answer is right on.

Re: how to boot into new server?

Thanks!!! Connecting via the serial port did the trick. I was able to get it setup via Hyperterm. For Hyperterm, I used 9600/8/N/1/Xon-Xoff if that makes any difference.

BTW the monitor's connected to a video card in one of the slots.

Thanks again.
