Re: how to check if i have still free 20g local disk?
Qustion: ll /dev/*/group ( Use new Number which is not listed)
--what do you mean use new number?
Answer: It will show you major and Minor Number like 64 0x000000
u have to choose unique number like in your output
# ll /dev/*/group
crw-r----- 1 root sys 64 0x000000 Oct 22 2002 /dev/vg00/group
crw-r--r-- 1 root sys 64 0x150000 Jul 13 2005 /dev/vg15/group
crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 64 0x0a0000 Oct 3 2007 /dev/vgdev/group
You can use 0x010000 its not being used.
you can use
mknod /dev/newvg/group c 64 0x010000
Question : newfs -F vxfs -o largefiles /dev/newvg/rlvname ( use r )
--use r? why and how?
When you will create new LV it will give you new raw device name starts with rlvname
with newfs wh have to use raw (r) Name.
Hope it clear your doughts.
Please assign points also for my Answers if it clear your doughts :-)

Sanjeev

Re: how to check if i have still free 20g local disk?
I will try to handle this to the error i have encountered.
# lvcreate -L 34728M -n lvol20 /dev/newvg
Logical volume "/dev/newvg/lvol20" has been successfully created with
character device "/dev/newvg/rlvol20".
lvcreate: Not enough free physical extents available.
Logical volume "/dev/newvg/lvol20" could not be extended.
Run the "lvextend" command to create space on the Logical Volume.
# newfs -F vxfs -o largefiles /dev/newvg/rlvol20
vxfs newfs: no space allocated to device /dev/newvg/rlvol20

Re: how to check if i have still free 20g local disk?
You picked it very Fast great :-)
The LV size your are trying to create is more than you have in Disk, that's why u are getting this error
Reduce he size you will be done.
To see how much space u have in your newvg
do vgdisplay /dev/vgnew

The number you used is too large.
Hope this helps!

Re: how to check if i have still free 20g local disk?
1. in case the disk is being used by VXVM then it will not be listed in /etc/lvmtab but still it may not be free. So, use
#vxdisk list
2. The drive may be used a whole disk swap or whole disk file system.
#swapinfo -d
#bdf
