How to configure NFS at server end /client end

I want to make my L class server as file server so that all my windows XP clients can share the disk space on this server. OS is 11i.Can anybody help me ?

1) what to do at server end
2) what to do at client end

You could use NFS but then you would have to get an NFS client for all of your XP machines.

A better alternative would be to run samba
http://www.samba.org/ and then Windows can use exported directories as if they were normal Windows shares.

Never preceed any demonstration with anything more predictive than "watch this"

you can also use CIFS which is HPs equivalent of samba and is free. checkout these links for full description of product and configuration guide

I would go with Bruno's direction of Samba. Its probably the best way to accomplish this.

An advantage of this approach would be the fact that you don't have to do anything on the client side. All you are required to do is install and configure SAMBA on your server and define the shares and accesses and you are all set to go. There is defintely nothing that needs to be carried out on the client machines (in your case on your XP).

I have used this for years and it works just great.

Also take note of the fact that you can download SAMBA at no cost :-)
