Re: How to expand vg00 in a VM guest?
You need to say what type of backing store you are using.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: How to expand vg00 in a VM guest?
If I add a new disk, can I have performance problems?

Re: How to expand vg00 in a VM guest?
1) add another disk to the guest and expand vg00 ( depending on if you are only looking to extend /var, /usr, /tmp, /opt, others need to be contiguous)
2) the same way you would do a physical server. create ignite image of guest, grow or replace vg00 disk, restore with image.
3) use DRD to create copy on larger disk, mount DRD copy, extend lvols ( those mentioned above), boot DRD copy to confirm.
4) may be able to exend backing store and use vgmodify ( but you would still need to boot something so the orig is offline, i believe)
I would vote for #2, simple straight forward and well proven. You could even restore image to new disk, boot to confirm, then remove old.

Re: How to expand vg00 in a VM guest?
I wont that my vg00 in VMguest has a size of 15Gb
I was thinking of making:
1 - make another disk of 15Gb in VM host and give it to VM guest
2 - add this new disk to vg00 in a new group PVG01 for example
3 - synchronize/mirror both disks of vg00
4 - Alter boot loader in VMguest
5 - take out the disk10 (10Gb) from vg00 in VM guest
6 - take out the disk10 from VM host
I've been reading the manual and I think there is no problem of corruption data but I don't have the experience.
Do you think is a good procedure?
There is no downtime if I do it like this.
Thanks,
MBrito

Re: How to expand vg00 in a VM guest?
We need to understand what you trying to accomplish.
What you really want add more space to vg00 in VM or upgrade de disk in of the VG00 in VM ?.
The first option is really simple, the second one is a little bit more complex.
Regards.

Re: How to expand vg00 in a VM guest?
Someone told me that is NOT a good idea to have, VM guest a vg00 with 2 disk.
This could be a problem in performance...
Is this true?

May I ask why you need more space in vg00?
Hope this helps!

Re: How to expand vg00 in a VM guest?
I don't see any problem ( or performance problem ) to have 2 3 4 disks in vg00
Best regards.
